The actor’s recent film, the hugely-hyped (and heavily panned) sequel to Billa, Billa II, has not even collected Rs 1 crore in both the US and the UK, which are among the major overseas centres for Tamil films.
As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, “In its opening weekend, Billa II collected £ 72,120 (Rs 61.20 lakh) from 20 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 3,606, in the UK and Ireland. In the US, the film collected $ 1,18,509 (Rs 64.83 lakh) on 31 screens, with the per screen average working out to a paltry $ 3,823.” In fact, the US opening was even lesser than that of the star’s earlier film Mankatha!
Now, after three weeks after release the cumulative total in both these countries is still hovering around Rs 90 lakh and is unlikely to reach Rs 1 crore, which should come as a huge disappointment considering that they have a significant number of audience for Tamil films and also because the film was released on a record number of screens for an Ajith film.
Looks like Ajith still has a long way to go in the global arena before he can be rightfully crowned as King Of Opening.
