Achamundu Achamundu – Review
By admin • Jul 22nd, 2009 • Category: ReviewsAchamundu Achamundu is a psychological thriller made to suit the sensibilities of the typical Indian viewers.
The film explores some unseen territories in Tamil cinema and expose the dark side of child abusiveness prevails in the system. The director should be appreciated and lauded for his treatment of a sensitive subject, without ever turning his camera into a voyeur.
The story goes like this…
Senthil Kumar (Prasanna) a project manager in New Jersey and his beautiful wife Malini (Sneha) are representatives of the great Indian immigrant family, with the agenda of making enough money and relocating to India.
Senthil believes strongly in Tamil cuture and life style and always insists everybody speaks Tamil at home including their six-year old daughter Rithika (Akshaya).
Everything goes well, till a stranger a white man Robertson (John Shea) comes into their mansion to paint their basement, and nothing is the same again.
This guy offers to paint their basement for $ 1500 and drops the rate by $ 500 on seeing Rithika. One could easily guess the climax, if they has a minimum knowledge of Tamil cinema after this simple logic.
Though the story is thin in nature, the way the director and his artists present the script is smart and make this film watchable.
Prasanna done a perfect job as a typical Chennai based Tamil Brahmin with the perfection in the slang.
Sneha plays Malini with touching sincerity and the characters mood swings and fears are well brought by the competent actress.
The little angel Akshaya is also done her part well. But the real attraction of the movie is John Shea.
His characterization is perfect and it makes one to believe him easily as a pucca Gentleman.
The camera work of Chris Freilich and the background score and music for songs of Karthik Raja are excellent. Particularly Karthik Raja remembers the days of his father the Maestro Ilayaraja in background scoring.
The main drawback of the film is, the suspense about the villain is known to the audiences very early in the very beginning stage. But the cause behind the film is a right one and it is a timely alarm to warn the parents to keep their Children safely, even they are in home.
Rate: A must watch film!
